[00:00:00] Entertainment. Insight. Don't take life too serious. Welcome to Brainsky Unleashed.

[00:00:03] This episode's gonna be a little bit different. I decided to have Malachi Armstrong come back.

[00:00:09] And I also decided to have Maurice Hamilton join me. Malachi has been really struggling to find his way as far as what his business goals really are.

[00:00:17] I thought, let me have Maurice and I get together, work with Malachi, provide some basic coaching so that way hopefully we can help him get off the ground.

[00:00:25] So with that, let's get started. Malachi, how can we help you?

[00:00:29] Yes. I am just starting out as an entrepreneur. I'm looking to really grow as a person as well.

[00:00:37] My aspirations is in the field of life coaching. So far, I just know that I'm pretty much lost.

[00:00:44] Like I'm just lost that seat. This is something new to me, completely new.

[00:00:47] I didn't anticipate nor expect nor plan for things to go the way they go.

[00:00:52] I believe that is, I believe that's the journey of every entrepreneur to some extent.

[00:00:56] I've heard bits and pieces of stories where entrepreneurs along the way have felt lost and went through their ups and downs.

[00:01:02] So I've tried to use that. I heard this saying a few times that Rocky, where he had to eat sugar on the iced tea scene, you know, those times we had to really go through it.

[00:01:10] So I've tried to like sit on that and be like, all right, I know I'm gonna have to go through these things, but I just don't have the complete understanding, insight, support.

[00:01:18] And, and just, and sometimes I feel like I don't even have enough drive as much as I'm, I'm pushing myself and as hard as I am on myself.

[00:01:25] Some people say I need to show myself more grace, but I just don't, I just know that I don't have it all together and I definitely have to reach out.

[00:01:32] Okay. So Maurice, what are your thoughts initially? What advice would you give him?

[00:01:36] I mean, clearly he has an aspiration. He's got a fire. He's lost. What, what do you think he should do?

[00:01:43] You know, and really great question there. And, and I, and I would have to say my, my words or wisdom would be don't give up.

[00:01:49] And I don't know your, the story and I don't know the, what, what's going on with everything that happens.

[00:01:56] But when Tom did the initial introduction, he said Maurice also a very successful business.

[00:02:02] It wasn't always like that. And I, and I could go back and tell you the days when, you know, growing up on the south side of Chicago and, and I, even before you moved to Chicago, just where we were in the middle of the kids, where my mom was actually five or four of us that actually at that time.

[00:02:16] And she wasn't married and, and we had the struggle. We lived with our, with my grandmother. We were back in our, my neighborhood. We said my big mother, you know, so, so, and I know we didn't have anything.

[00:02:27] I know what it's like when we don't have things. And, and I've always made a commitment to myself and saying, no matter what happens, I'll always keep pushing myself.

[00:02:35] And there have been some dark days. There've been days where, you know, we wouldn't have money. I couldn't even join a Boy Scouts.

[00:02:41] I remember we didn't have money on it. And I love baseball back in the days. I couldn't even join the Little League baseball team at that particular time for it, but I always said that, you know, or keep pushing it.

[00:02:51] And I remember the dark days and Thomas, I were talking about this earlier. Um, when I, when I, one day when I had the money, I said, Oh, everything's going to be okay.

[00:02:59] And that money went from X amount of dollars down to like zero real quick. And then nothing that I was doing, but it was the economic forces, outside forces that changed it.

[00:03:08] And, but one thing that, that no matter what happened with it every single day. And before I went to bed, I kept saying, you know what, today was not a great day.

[00:03:17] I gave it and, uh, but tomorrow's going to be a better day. And I did that for probably a good four or 500 days, you know, and I keep pushing it.

[00:03:24] And cause nobody pushed me like I was going to push myself. But when I have my goals and I have my, and after a while you take your goals and say, okay, let's take step one first.

[00:03:32] Let's get from here to here and take a baby step forward. But I've started to learn how to take those baby steps to say, this is the first day I want to accomplish.

[00:03:41] Let me put my mind to this. Let me get the right people that can actually help me to get to this particular level.

[00:03:45] And it made a difference, uh, over the years, but it's always like baby stuff, baby stuff, baby stuff. And no matter how much, how much you go, it's just like you get up there, you know, up the 15 flights of stairs.

[00:03:57] And you know, you still got a long way to go. Somebody hits you or trips you and not you make that a fight, flights of stairs.

[00:04:02] You know, so you just got to move. It's got to keep pushing that.

[00:04:07] So Maurice says baby steps, right? So let's, let's actually put something to this. Um, Malachi, you said that you want to do business coaching, right?

[00:04:17] Yes. Life coaching. Yeah. Okay. Uh, life coaching, life coaching. Um, what kind of baby steps need to get done to get you rolling? All right. So, uh, what, what have you currently got established?

[00:04:29] So we know where you're at, so we can kind of offer some advice to what baby steps need to be taken next. What do you have currently established for yourself for that life coaching business?

[00:04:40] Well, I'm working on getting myself certified. I brought a $7 NLP course. So I'm studying neuro linguistics programming. Um, I do have a PayPal account set up because when I signed up for a business coaching ticket, they taught me how to sign up for it.

[00:04:55] And I was working on the receive payments and invoices and things of that nature. But that wasn't one of those baby steps either. That was like beyond my understanding of where I should really be at, at that point, particular time. Um, I'm watching YouTube videos, trying to learn little techniques and things of that nature.

[00:05:09] And understanding how sessions should go, what type of questions I should ask and things of that nature. Because, um, a fond distinction that was pointed out to me when I was listening to an audio book was how some people become coaches, quote unquote, and they don't make the distinction between impactful coaching and just give us unsolicited advice.

[00:05:25] So I'm trying to make sure that I understand that difference and know what I'm doing, because if I'm, if I'm not sure what I'm doing, I'm not sure if I'm capable of doing it. And I don't know when I'm talking with somebody, if I'm actually doing the impactful coaching or if I'm just giving unsolicited advice.

[00:05:39] Okay. So Maurice, do you have anything baby stepwise? I know, I know I've got something, but I'll, I'll, I'll, I'll let you go first.

[00:05:46] I do. Let me ask the first question would be, Malachi, do you actually have a coach yourself? Like a, uh, a couple of somebody who's actually in life coach right now coaching you?

[00:05:54] I've always just, I've come into everything on my own. I'd never, I've had like people here and there, but not no life coach. That's just like right there. When I felt, when life coaching failed me, it was just something that was calling me. And I was like, this is definitely what I want to do. And then I will look up life coaches on YouTube and I would, um, I tried to, you know, pay for a ticket or two. And it was just like, okay, this is not, I know this is probably not how I should be going about it, but I, I just wanted to immerse myself into the field to try to get as much knowledge and experience as possible.

[00:06:22] Yeah. My, my first advice would be, and the first thing we need to do is find somebody who has experienced in that particular area. Who's actually been doing it for many, many years. Cause the more experience that you have for somebody that's very successful, let them make sure that I say, you know what, here's the road to success. Let me put you over right track. See how you got there.

[00:06:40] The, the, the thing that I'm going to tell you Malachi is, um, and this is absolutely a baby step, but it's a critical baby step. You need to be able to, and do it in writing and put some thought behind it, but identify who your market is. Who are your customers? If you don't know who your customers are, you don't know who to market to. So that's, that's a, that's a big step one right there.

[00:06:59] Yes. Um, so because I have my podcast and it's defined all definitions and that's targeted on dads. I just figured I might as well just deal with dads. I'm a man, I'm a father. So I was feeling like I can, I can bring the coach into the podcast with maybe advice and things of that nature and, and, and promote the, the package on the podcast. So at the end of the day, I think I've just fall back on dads and then let it go from there.

[00:07:23] So you're, you're saying that you're going to fall back on, on the podcast to do that. I think you need a little bit more horsepower behind you. Uh, Maurice, what do you, what do you say?

[00:07:32] I have to disagree. And I think that that would be like secondary right now. So you can build it up, but then it needs to be a first step first, uh, something else. So you can actually go back and supplement that, uh, in that particular capacity. I agree. Yep. It looks like your light went out.

[00:07:45] Yeah. I was sitting in the car.

[00:07:48] Getting dark.

[00:07:49] All right. So, so maybe step one here is identifying your market, which you're saying dads, but I think you need to be a little bit more broader, uh, go a little bit broader than that. Um, you know, maybe your market is dads, but is it, is it younger dads? Is it older dads? Is it, um, is it also maybe kids growing up, you know, you know, late teens, early twenties? Uh, are there other things that you can possibly help people with other than just strictly, uh, dads?

[00:08:18] I think dads, unfortunately is a little too broad.

[00:08:20] Definitely. Um, I would have to take some time to figure that out, sir.

[00:08:23] I might go.

[00:08:24] Oh yeah. Yeah. I'm, I'm saying, you know, this is what I mean. That baby step for you is.

[00:08:28] Yeah.

[00:08:29] Identify your market, really dig deep to try and figure out that market and how you're going to help people.

[00:08:34] Um, the other thing I, I, this first thing I thought of actually, even before that was you probably don't even have a website, do you?

[00:08:40] Malachi?

[00:08:40] Do you all hear me?

[00:08:40] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:08:41] Do you even have, do you have a website?

[00:08:44] No, sir. I don't.

[00:08:44] I mean, not that the website's going to generate a ton of revenue for you, but it is, it's a, it's a virtual pamphlet.

[00:08:50] Right. And, you know, I would at least say that's another baby step of getting that established, you know, for more information, go to my website.

[00:08:57] So that way as you're on your podcast for more information, go to my website, which may have contact information, talk about the service you provide things like that.

[00:09:05] Maurice, you got anything else on, on maybe another step?

[00:09:07] Yeah. I'll think about that.

[00:09:08] I agree with that digital website because that's what people use for the Apple reference.

[00:09:12] The other thing, when we go back into the target audience, is there a certain area that you're, that you're, that you feel like, look, I've got a lot of space.

[00:09:18] I can, this is what I'm going to focus on.

[00:09:20] For example, I have a friend of mine, she actually helps people with, uh, with brain disorders.

[00:09:25] Another one actually helps people when they're actually looking for jobs.

[00:09:28] Do you have a specific area that you want to focus on and say, this is my, you, you're identifying the target audience.

[00:09:34] Here's what your, your core specialist is going to be.

[00:09:37] Bam. Have you identified that?

[00:09:38] No, sir. I have. And I love that you put it that way because in my eyes, it was like, dad's was that thing.

[00:09:44] Like, because I had the podcast and I had my experiences.

[00:09:47] Um, so what made, what made me feel like I could do that was because I had been, I had like quote unquote, call myself an adversity coach because I had been through so much like childhood trauma, abuse.

[00:09:58] I've been homeless and then I was incarcerated.

[00:10:00] So I, I dealt with a lot and I had to persist in my mindset and my belief that I can overcome those things.

[00:10:07] And I think that's a really great focus.

[00:10:09] I was telling you earlier about my, a little bit about my life, my background.

[00:10:12] Now, instead of, if I were to do this right now, I want to actually focus on working with children or like with young men to actually say, you don't have a dad around.

[00:10:21] So let me, let me tell you how you can stay motivated and actually how you can still survive your dreams.

[00:10:25] Because when I'm going to focus on one particular niche, and I like how you actually, because you kind of focus that area into what you say.

[00:10:31] I've got experience, bam, bam, bam in most of a particular area.

[00:10:35] Hell, you had to keep your head.

[00:10:36] You could take the, like the, like, uh, like the prison, a prison type area right there.

[00:10:41] That could be a focus area right there by yourself.

[00:10:43] You know, that's, that's a big area right there.

[00:10:45] You could just take them, each one of them.

[00:10:47] These are my specialties.

[00:10:48] Bam, bam, bam.

[00:10:49] You could take it from that, you know?

[00:10:51] Do you have, uh, Malachi, do you have a fee structure even set up to know what you would charge for what different services or, you know, is it by hour, by call, by, I mean, do you have anything set?

[00:11:01] Set up established at this time?

[00:11:03] Oh, I don't.

[00:11:04] Um, I was, I was going to be like on clubhouse trying to, you know, like get my experience that way.

[00:11:10] So I had came up with like a price point and I was just going to be like, Hey, we can just sit and conversate about what you're going through as far as adversity wise.

[00:11:17] And I was going to charge dot, dot, dot.

[00:11:19] And it would just be by this, not by the session, but monthly, you know, and I was just going to do it like that.

[00:11:24] Can I, can I suggest that maybe you do it by session?

[00:11:27] Uh, you know, so maybe have a per session deal, a per package deal or per X amount of sessions deal.

[00:11:33] So that way, you know, if anyone wants to talk to you, you're not lost when you're trying to say, you know, cause I mean, if, if somebody wants is interested in your services, they want to know what it's going to cost.

[00:11:42] And they, they're going to lose comfort with you.

[00:11:45] If you waffle on what it's going to cost, you got to be confident enough to go.

[00:11:48] Yeah.

[00:11:48] You know, and actually one session costs this, or, you know, we have a package deal, blah, blah, blah.

[00:11:52] Does that make sense?

[00:11:53] Yeah.

[00:11:53] Yes, of course.

[00:11:54] Yup.

[00:11:54] Yup.

[00:11:55] Yup.

[00:11:55] And I never, I never been approached about my, how I would go about pricing my sessions and things of that nature.

[00:12:00] These are things that I've been trying to like understand and watch things on YouTube about like how I, how, when I would go about these things.

[00:12:07] Okay.

[00:12:07] That's, that's an important one.

[00:12:09] Um, I'm going to actually pose this to, um, to Maurice is an idea I had as, as we were talking, you know, Maurice, we have someone here who wants to get the word out, right?

[00:12:20] He wants to do this, wants to get the word out, wants to build a customer base.

[00:12:24] Can virtual assistants help with that?

[00:12:26] Um, yes and no.

[00:12:27] So what a virtual assistant would do would actually contact people like via, uses via phone or they'll help you do flyers.

[00:12:34] Well, nobody knows if the flyers will meet and they'll think things anymore.

[00:12:37] Uh, but a virtual assistant can actually say, let's say, Malachi, if you want to send a email out to, let's say, X-valid people, whatever that group is.

[00:12:45] Because they can actually take your information, exactly what, uh, what Thomas was talking about there and actually put down what your deliverables were.

[00:12:53] And they can send that information out to people so that they can actually, that way they could tell people your story.

[00:12:57] They could tell people more about you.

[00:12:59] So a virtual assistant can, can actually help in that capacity where they can actually help.

[00:13:03] In other words, you take your stuff and you multiply it.

[00:13:05] You have somebody and their whole job is just to focus on getting the word out about you.

[00:13:09] So the answer is VA can help them in that particular manner, but especially after you get the web, especially after we go back and have their fee structure.

[00:13:18] And especially after you have put down what your deliverables are, because you're going to put down, say, if you work with me, I'm Malachi.

[00:13:26] I've done this.

[00:13:27] This is what I know.

[00:13:28] Here's what you can expect by working with me.

[00:13:30] And I'll like clearly what the deliverables are.

[00:13:32] They can actually help you deliver your message and your content.

[00:13:35] Yes.

[00:13:35] So what we've talked about then is identifying the market.

[00:13:40] We've talked about the website, right?

[00:13:43] Yes.

[00:13:44] We talked about the price list, identifying prices.

[00:13:47] Maurice, can you think of like one other baby step that he can take maybe?

[00:13:51] And maybe we do a follow-up call the next week or two weeks or something like that.

[00:13:55] And so we kind of follow his progress and help him along and see where he may be stumbling.

[00:14:00] Yeah, I would say the other thing would be the last thing I'm going to mention about that deliverables to say, what is the outcome that you, what are the results that you want people to have when they talk to you?

[00:14:09] And you don't have to go back into, you know, a whole page of all your information for it, but just put down, you know, a couple of like three or four bullet points to say, well, they're done working with me.

[00:14:18] They're going to have bam, bam, bam, bam, bam, bam.

[00:14:21] You know, and just kind of like outline what they can expect that you're going to deliver to them and how you want to help them, you know?

[00:14:28] And even on top of that, why you want to help them, you know?

[00:14:32] Very important.

[00:14:33] Very important.

[00:14:34] And that why has to be tied to not only your website, but anything that you would possibly do with virtual assistants down the road.

[00:14:43] And I say down the road because there's a lot of steps that have to take place before you go virtual assistant, but the why behind the deliverables, behind the website, it all has to be tied to that why, right?

[00:14:53] Yes.

[00:14:54] It's that core.

[00:14:56] And that's pretty critically important.

[00:14:59] Do you think that you can do these things in the next?

[00:15:02] I'm not going to lie to you guys.

[00:15:04] I would try my hardest.

[00:15:05] And the reason being is that I'm going to go to McDonald's tomorrow and fill out an application there because I'm so behind on bills and things of that nature because I'm not, I wasn't making enough where I'm at now with this independent contracting job.

[00:15:17] So I would be putting a lot of my time into that as far as the virtual assistant and the money for that thing.

[00:15:23] For whatever I had to kick out money for, I have to first come across that money because that's how behind I am, honestly.

[00:15:28] Okay.

[00:15:29] All right.

[00:15:29] Where are you looking?

[00:15:31] I'm in Philadelphia.

[00:15:32] So I've got great news for you, Malachi.

[00:15:33] It's going to cost you nothing to figure out how to identify your market.

[00:15:39] It's going to cost you nothing to figure out what your deliverables are.

[00:15:43] It's going to cost you nothing to figure out what your pricing structure is.

[00:15:47] The three critical things right there that will cost you absolutely nothing.

[00:15:51] All right?

[00:15:51] Yeah.

[00:15:51] The website won't cost you much, but you got to feed the kids first.

[00:15:55] All right?

[00:15:55] Yeah.

[00:15:56] So the website can wait a little bit.

[00:15:57] Now, what about a social media strategy?

[00:16:00] Maurice, is there anything he could do for free on social media?

[00:16:03] That may help him in lieu of the financial crunch that he's under?

[00:16:08] Yeah.

[00:16:08] And there's two days.

[00:16:09] It won't cost you anything to do this either.

[00:16:11] Do you have a Facebook site for your business?

[00:16:14] Set up yet?

[00:16:14] No.

[00:16:14] Here's your website.

[00:16:15] Yep.

[00:16:16] Set up a Facebook site, one.

[00:16:18] And also set up an Instagram.

[00:16:19] I do have an Instagram.

[00:16:21] Oh, yeah.

[00:16:21] Does it have your business?

[00:16:22] What's your business name anyway, Malachi?

[00:16:24] I go by YCoachKai.

[00:16:26] And the LLC that I have set up is God Consciousness Production.

[00:16:28] Okay.

[00:16:29] Oh, cool.

[00:16:29] So you can actually set up the Instagrams at YCoachKai.

[00:16:33] And it's just once a week, twice a week.

[00:16:36] Put something really positive out there.

[00:16:38] And say, you know, something like inspirational.

[00:16:41] And put that information on Instagram.

[00:16:43] And then say, for coaching, call Coach Kair.

[00:16:47] You know, put something like email me, DM me.

[00:16:50] So that way you can actually send a little bit of advice.

[00:16:52] And so now I don't think about it.

[00:16:53] The first time you try to help some people, give it for them free.

[00:16:57] Go back.

[00:16:57] Because you can take that information and you can say, okay, if you don't mind, let me do a testimonial for me.

[00:17:03] And actually, you can actually document some information.

[00:17:05] You can actually get them to a testimonial about how you actually helped them.

[00:17:09] Even though you gave it to them free, it's not going to be free because it's actually going to be,

[00:17:12] the stateable that you need to get to the next level.

[00:17:15] So what do you think about that, Thomas?

[00:17:18] I love the idea.

[00:17:19] As a matter of fact, I'm going to expand on that one.

[00:17:20] And again, you can do this absolutely free.

[00:17:22] I am not one who personally loves to peruse Facebook or Instagram or whatever and just see random positive, you know, aspirational sayings, right?

[00:17:32] I don't think that that really catches people.

[00:17:35] But I am going to say that if you do put on there things from your life, lessons learned, share some lessons that you learned.

[00:17:41] Maybe it's a long time ago or maybe it's something that was recent.

[00:17:45] And maybe you're just, you know, quipping something very simple about, hey, I was doing blah, blah, blah with my daughter the other day.

[00:17:52] And as a father, I realized this or that.

[00:17:55] I mean, really making it authentic and personal is going to take you a lot farther.

[00:17:59] But I still think you need to mix in some inspirational things like that.

[00:18:03] There's nothing wrong with doing that.

[00:18:04] But be as authentic and human as you can.

[00:18:06] And I think that's going to probably also help kind of build that general basis for trust and appreciation for you.

[00:18:15] It's all free.

[00:18:15] That's free.

[00:18:16] And then he can even, like I said, take some of the information for it and just say, make a 20 second, 30 second clip, video, you know, clipping you, giving advice, you know?

[00:18:24] As a matter of fact, I like that so much.

[00:18:26] And we're going to take this another level, Malachi.

[00:18:28] So again, free.

[00:18:29] So instead of just simply posting, you know, a story, maybe you take that story and you record yourself telling the story and you put that on YouTube.

[00:18:38] And then you share that YouTube video because YouTube, you can monetize YouTube.

[00:18:43] And once you've hit X amount of clicks, YouTube will pay you.

[00:18:47] And so that's just another way of actually taking what you've made for free.

[00:18:51] And it's going to take time.

[00:18:52] I don't want to over promise this.

[00:18:53] But if you do this consistently, then YouTube will end up paying you for all the content that you've been creating all along anyway as people click on it.

[00:19:02] I think that's an awesome idea.

[00:19:03] I think about, and we all heard the story with Walt Disney.

[00:19:07] Walt Disney says something really smart way back 40, 50 years ago before we were in bar.

[00:19:11] He's an always tell a story.

[00:19:14] Always tell a story.

[00:19:15] It paid off well for the Disney family.

[00:19:18] Yeah.

[00:19:19] Yeah.

[00:19:20] All right.

[00:19:20] So we've just given you a lot that can be done absolutely free.

[00:19:26] Even the Facebook business page is your new website free.

[00:19:31] You can do all of these things while you're working at McDonald's or while you're trying to DoorDash or whatever it is that you're trying to do.

[00:19:37] To get the money together.

[00:19:38] To continue growing yourself and your entrepreneurial adventure.

[00:19:43] What are your thoughts?

[00:19:44] I love everything that y'all had to say.

[00:19:46] I really got to focus on myself in the market and what I aspire to deliver.

[00:19:53] Not just the deliverables, but deliver as far as results from my clients, from my target market.

[00:19:57] Yeah.

[00:19:58] There's a lot that's got to take place before you do that.

[00:20:00] That's my, that's, you said it's a lot of stuff to take before I'm able to do that.

[00:20:03] Yeah.

[00:20:04] You have a lot of steps that are literal baby steps.

[00:20:07] We're literally giving you these baby steps to follow, but that's why I want to follow up with you and say like three weeks.

[00:20:12] I mean, I'm giving you three weeks to do all these things for free that you can do with your free time.

[00:20:18] And so I think that, uh, Maurice, would you be, would you be good with doing this again in about three weeks and just kind of seeing where he's at and, and maybe kind of going from there and taking it to, to, to another level.

[00:20:29] Or maybe help them out from there.

[00:20:31] Absolutely.

[00:20:31] And I, I think that these are small baby steps and, and, uh, those you could put in place right now.

[00:20:36] So absolutely.

[00:20:37] I'm more than happy to help.

[00:20:38] I love it.

[00:20:38] What do you think, Malachi?

[00:20:40] I love it.

[00:20:40] I love the support that I'm getting.

[00:20:41] I love the fact that y'all not holding back.

[00:20:43] Y'all looking at it from where y'all see it.

[00:20:46] And if you was in my shoes and what y'all doing about taking your time out and doing this.

[00:20:49] Okay.

[00:20:50] Well on that, we're going to close out this episode.

[00:20:52] Uh, I thank you both.

[00:20:53] Uh, I look forward to doing this again here in a few weeks.

[00:20:57] And, uh, I know that, uh, I'm going to be praying for you and, uh, I wish you absolutely the best over the next few weeks.

[00:21:03] And we'll touch base again and see where we're at and see if we can help, help you grow.

[00:21:07] Thank you.

[00:21:08] All right.

[00:21:09] Thank you.

[00:21:10] And thank you, Maurice.

[00:21:11] Thank you.

[00:21:11] It's a pleasure and a blessing to meet you.

[00:21:13] Once in a lifetime, I'm a fertility man to share this experience and whatever comes about it.

[00:21:17] Like I'm, I'm thankful.

[00:21:19] All right.

[00:21:19] Well, guys, we're going to talk again in a few weeks.

[00:21:21] Thank you so much.
